The open concrete-data landscape

Example entries

Worked Open3DCP records converted from public, openly-licensed academic and national datasets — each shows the source's data classes and storage medium, and how it re-formats into the Open3DCP flat schema.

Why one shape matters. Concrete data is scattered across benchmarks, national repositories, and standards bodies in incompatible shapes (flat vs relational vs file-based) and bases (kg/m³ vs mass-%). Open3DCP is the connective layer across the experiment record: mix → 3DCP process → fresh rheology → hardened mechanical → durability → interlayer bond → embodied carbon → multi-age strength. Put in one shape, openly licensed, each contributed record becomes usable alongside every other.

Examples

UCI Concrete Compressive Strength →

CC BY 4.0 cast concrete

A flat kg/m³ benchmark (Yeh 1998). Fidelity 100/A — zero assumptions (v1.7.5): every mass exact; what the source never states (cement type, gradations, SP solids) is recorded generically, NULL, never guessed. Fills mix-design + hardened + multi-age; 3DCP/process/durability stay null.

Meta SustainableConcrete →

MIT cast · corporate

A carbon-aware kg/m³ table from Meta + UIUC + Amrize. Fidelity 100/A — zero assumptions; adds per-mix CO₂ + measurement uncertainty — the environment slice UCI leaves empty.

RILEM TC 304-ADC ILS-mech →

CC BY 4.0 3D-printed

A multi-national relational SQLite of printed concrete. Denormalized + aggregated to mean±std-dev/n; shows print anisotropy (orientation) + process — the columns UCI leaves empty.

UF 3DCP Mix-Design →

CC BY 4.0 3D-printed

The extrusion-3DCP printability slice: static/dynamic yield stress + viscosity. Hand-curated (ratio-to-binder basis; kg/m³ not recoverable — an honest basis-mismatch demo).

TU-Braunschweig 3DCP Buildings →

CC BY 4.0 project layer

As-built printed buildings (WinSun, COBOD, ICON, Apis Cor…). The project/process layer — no mix or strength data, by design: the frontier the connective schema reaches next.

Coverage — each source lights up a slice; Open3DCP spans the whole

¹ commercial premix — w/b and yield stress captured, constituent dosages not disclosed. The gaps between slices are the connective-layer argument: no single source spans the whole record; the union does. Two kg/m³ sources carry a real open3dcp-ingest score (both 100/A — zero assumptions, generically-recorded cells disclosed in the fidelity report); the 3DCP-mix (ratio-to-binder) and project-layer sources are hand-curated. A surveyed UHPC source, Stevens UHPC (US, CC BY 4.0), was excluded as reference-only — its mix variables ship as a coded matrix with a paywalled legend.

Storable vs reference-only

The rule: store only when the license clearly permits redistribution — CC BY 4.0, CC0, US-government public domain, GODL-India, or a permissive software license (MIT/BSD/Apache) — with attribution. Anything copyrighted, registration-gated, or unclear is reference-only and cited respectfully.

Storable (built / verified): UCI Concrete Strength · Meta SustainableConcrete (MIT) · RILEM TC 304-ADC ILS-mech · UF 3DCP mix-design · TU-Braunschweig 3DCP Buildings · NIST Construction Materials (US public domain) · JCI–JACT (per-paper).   Reference-only (cited, not stored): Stevens UHPC (coded matrix, paywalled legend) · TU/e interlayer-bond set (CC BY-SA copyleft) · ACI · NIMS MatNavi · China NMDMS / Materials-Genome platforms · Russia GOST · EU NOMAD / Materials Project · image-only sets.   Out of scope: low-calcium fly-ash geopolymers (not hydraulic).

National map

Open concrete & materials-data efforts Open3DCP can interoperate with: USA — NIST (MGI; Federal LCA Commons, storable), UCI (CC BY 4.0), ACI (reference). International — RILEM TC 304-ADC (the 3DCP anchor; ILS-mech storable), NOMAD (FAIR exemplar). Germany — BAM + NFDI-MatWerk; Zenodo deposits CC BY 4.0. Japan — NIMS MatNavi (gated, reference), JCI–JACT (CC BY 4.0). China — National Materials-Genome stack (gated, reference); CAS ScienceDB (storable platform). South Korea — KISTI DataON. India — GODL-India permits redistribution (and IIT Madras contributes to RILEM ILS-mech). Russia — GOST (method codes only). Provenance (doi / source_citation / lab_name) is preserved on every row.
